Here I Stand

Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be

It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all

It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I’m free

Let it go, let it go

That perfect girl is gone.

Here I stand

~selected words from the Frozen song "Let it go"~

Kathy"s song choice for Songography had me in an introspective kind of mood this week. I wanted to capture a picture of my grown up self that related to the little girl me in the picture at the beach.  There have been a lot of years between those two photos.  A lot of living, learning and letting go.  I've spent many years trying to be the person that other people wanted me to be.  Or at least what I thought they wanted me to be. For many years fears strangled the more adventurous, sassy, bold me that simmered inside.  The me with her hands on her hips, looking at the world head-on, confident and not caring what others think.
It's taken a long time to release the fears. (at least most of them - one I'm working on is taking selfies :)

Finally living more authentically and wholeheartedly as the real me.

Here I stand.

  1. Lovely selfie!! You did a great job with this week's challenge.

  2. Amen sista! I soooooooooo relate to this. Like 100%!!!! I think for myself, my "bold and sass" started reappearing about the same time I started taking my photography more seriously, about 3 years ago. I've got to believe there is a correlation there somewhere. And seriously, take more are beautiful! In addition to your gorgeous self, I love that gorgeous background of a swirling sky. So happy to see you at Song-grapht, thanks for joining in.

  3. what a wonderful that backround!! This song seemed to strike a chord in a lot of us!

  4. Great response to the song. I love your selfie-beautifully put together-and that sassy one at the beach. I got to thinking that we seem to start out that way, not caring what anyone thinks, and yet it's so hard to go back round to that. Congrats on getting there, or at least having that awareness that you're striving for it.

  5. Love these shots and how you have compared the little girl to the adult. That middle photo on the bottom has the same "look". Yes, it is important to get out no matter what the weather is. I try to do that because I would go bananas staying at home on account of cold or rain or what ever. The winter especially is not good to stay in for me as I tend to get "winteritis"... if that is a word.

  6. Beautiful! Both the photo(s) and the text. I guess most of us are hiding something, somewhere. I am working on sharing more and I love that you have already succeeded to reveal yourself - mostly ;)
p.s. that wave behind you is gorgeous. Did you blend it into your selfie or were you there? Either way - it is beautiful.

    1. the wave is actually a giant picture hanging on the wall behind me :)

  7. This is a great interpretation of the song. I like your selfie, too. I haven't mastered the art of selfies yet. How did you get the big wave right behind you?

  8. Wonderful pictures and great B & W ! Beautiful freedom! Viva la vida!

  9. What I see is the portrait of a strong and beautiful woman.....and a cheeky little girl. Isn'it wonderful how we all started ....sassy and confident and than what happened? Just to be that little girl again....

  10. Love the way you choose to interpret this!!
That picture worked wonderfully. It looks like you are right there about to be swallowed by a giant wave.

  11. Love the picture on the beach with the waves in the background! Good luck to you.

Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.

  12. Loved this. Seeing you as a little girl and then as an adult is such a creative interpretation of the song. I enjoyed reading your thoughts behind it as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by. xoxo
